Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about WebOrbiton's features, requirements, and licensing.

General & Licensing

What is WebOrbiton?

WebOrbiton is an ultra-light, modern, and self-hosted service status monitoring system. Its unique selling point is that it runs exclusively on PHP and Cron Jobs, eliminating the need for a dedicated VPS or complex database setup, making it suitable for standard shared hosting.

Is WebOrbiton free?

Yes. The basic Self-Hosted version is and will always be free. It allows for full monitoring of an unlimited number of services and is Source Available. We also offer paid options: Cloud Hosted (coming soon) for a maintenance-free solution, and a Commercial License for integration into paid products.

How is it different from Uptime Kuma or Statuspage?

The key difference is the lack of required database and VPS. WebOrbiton is designed to operate on standard shared hosting with minimal resource consumption. It is significantly lighter and simpler to set up, focusing on core functionality like uptime tracking and incident reporting.

Technical Requirements

What are the minimum requirements to run it?

  • PHP environment (7.4+ recommended).
  • Ability to set up a Cron Job (scheduled task) with 1-minute intervals.
  • A basic web server (Apache/Nginx).
  • No database required; data is stored in lightweight JSON files.

How does WebOrbiton check service status?

Monitoring is performed by a single PHP file called by your server's Cron Job at set intervals. This script sends HTTP requests to the configured URLs and saves the results (response time, status code) to local JSON files, which are then read by the status page.

Can I run it without Cron Jobs?

No. The monitoring function relies entirely on the cyclical execution of the script via a Cron Job (server scheduled task). This is essential for ensuring reliable background monitoring without needing a constantly running background daemon, which is critical for shared hosting environments.

Functionality and Support

What is the minimum check frequency?

The minimum monitoring interval is 1 minute, as this is the most common and reliable cycle configuration for server Cron Jobs. You can set longer intervals (e.g., 5, 10, 30 minutes) within the system if needed.

Do you offer technical support for the Self-Hosted version?

For the free Self-Hosted version, we provide Community Support through our GitHub page. Users with a Commercial License and future Cloud Hosted customers will receive dedicated, Priority Support.

Can I customize the status page design?

Yes, WebOrbiton is highly customizable. You are free to modify the CSS and HTML files. You can also utilize ready-made Themes available on the themes.weborbiton.com website to match the look and feel to your brand.

Is WebOrbiton safe?

Yes. WebOrbiton is designed with security and privacy in mind. It runs entirely on your own server, does not rely on third-party services, and does not collect or transmit any data externally. All monitoring data is stored locally in lightweight JSON files. The source code is openly available on GitHub, allowing full transparency and independent security review.

Who is the owner of WebOrbiton?

WebOrbiton is owned by Igor Oprządek, a Polish electronic music creator. The project is actively developed and maintained by the WebOrbiton Team, with a strong focus on simplicity, transparency, and compatibility with shared hosting environments.
